Five years ago, we lost one of the most innovative artists of the 20th century when Micheal Joseph Jackson transitioned on June 25th, a few months shy of his 50th birthday. The world wept and many of us are still feeling ‘some kind of way’ at the fact of his physical presence no longer roams the earth. For many of us, Thriller is the game-changing record that brought us fully present to the talents of a man that would become king. At the time of its release, we all realized something major was happening. The music of MJ became the soundtrack for many a child coming of age in the ’80s and ’90s and the go-to at all the house parties regardless of ethnicity, language or culture.
As a cultural architect, I strive to make the experiences we produce do more than provide a temporary outlet for a night out. My goal is always to create meaningful energy exchanges in the space of intimacy. It is about closed eyes, time warps, hands up and singing at the top of your lungs. It is also about being able to look into a sea of faces and know that regardless of how you all came together, in that one moment-we are all one. With that in mind, I am very excited about our contribution to what will be a slew of MJ tributes happening in the city during the month of August. The six degrees concept will feature the entire Jackson family, rare grooves, remixes, adaptations, samples and more.
As a global-minded company and collective, we felt it only appropriate to showcase the degrees to which MJ influenced music and the world. We will transport people into a world where the narrative for the entire night will revolve around MJ’s reach. This will not be your typical MJ tribute, but an amalgamation of our shared love and respect for how MJ thrilled us with his moves, moved us with his sounds and schooled us with his lyrics. Get ready folks, it is going to be a good night.
