DJ Stylus turned me onto Tortured Soul  almost seven years ago with their soulful track “I Might Do Something Wrong”. After hearing the song  I was hooked for two reasons: the lyrics and the groove.  A friend of mine said it best about the single, “It’s the ‘might’ that makes this song so hot!” He was right. The plea of a man who might cheat if his beloved didn’t return soon, was honest and poetic, and the groove underneath had just enough bottom to keep my attention. When I listened to their debut album, I was hooked. When I finally saw them perform, I was blown away.

Here’s the deal:  The live show is dope! I’ll admit in addition to the music, I love watching the drummer, J. Christian Urich, sing and play at the same time (check the video below), but in all seriousness, Tortured Soul live is a unique experience and them coming to DC is even more rare.

In addition, it just so happens that this show coincides with Shrine, the bi-weekly residency featuring the Sol Power All StarsDJ Stylus and DJ Meistro will be on deck with their mix of funk, disco, latin, afrobeat and rare grooves. If you aren’t familiar check out their mixes as part of your pre-show prep , purchase your tickets and then meet me at Tropicalia on Friday night.
