LSP Pick! Chocolate City Rocks: Double Header (09.13 & 09.14)

This Saturday and Sunday, “Chocolate City Rocks” returns to The Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage. A grassroots initiative started in 2010 by Vance “Head-Roc” Levy, CCR promotes a greater public awareness and patronage of Washington DC area’s conscious and cultural artists. There will be  a total of four performances all hosted by our very own Risikat “Kat” Okedeyi.

5X5_CHOCITYROCKSOn Saturday September 13th, the Hung Tao Choy Mei Leadership Institute  will produce a show founder and executive director Mr. Sifu Abdur-Rahim Muhammad describes as, “Africa and Asia Building Bridges through Culture and Cooperation with traditional drummers, dancers, lions and Kung Fu heroes to make for an exciting and memorable evening.”  The evening’s performers will include: Dragon Princess Olivia Zhang, Culture Queen Jessica Smith, Fairfax ‘Chinese Dance Troupe, Wuiping Yap, Malcolm X Drummers, and Hung Tao Choy Mei.

 
wpid-3_10840_5x5_chocityrocks_sep_14_2.jpgOn Sunday September 14th, our own boss lady Risikat “Kat” Okedeyi  will present a program titled “I Remember U: A Live Mixtape Experience.”  Combining elements of poetry, spoken word, emceeing and beats, the show pays homage to the famed U Street Corridor when it was a home to DC’s progressive music and arts scene of the late 1990’s.  The show will feature performances by Ra Brown, Asheru, Poem-Cees, Dehejia Maat, Wes Felton, Navasha Daya and DJ Stylus in a live and continuous mixtape-style approach.
