Anti-Ratchet Superhero Saves DC Nightlife

With as much history, art and culture as D.C. holds, it can still be hard to find a quality nightlife scene – one where bottles aren’t being popped pretentiously, women aren’t dressed to the nines – only to stand in the corner – and fights do not break out between business professionals looking to be reality TV stars.

Risikat Okedeyi, owner of Lil SoSo Productions, is on a constant mission to bring quality nightlife to D.C. with her self-labeled “anti-ratchet superhero” powers. What is ratchet? “Chocolate City Rocks” continues at Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage: Doubleheader weekend featuring Hung Tao Choy Mei Leadership Institute (Sept. 13) and Lil SoSo Productions (Sept. 14).

Washington, DC – DC Hip-Hop artist Head-Roc  (www.head-roc.com) will curate his 2nd and 3rd of four scheduled “Chocolate City Rocks” themed productions as part of the Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage Free Concert Series, the weekend of September 13-14, 2014.

On Saturday September 13th, the Hung Tao Choy Mei Leadership Institute (www.jowga.org)  will produce a show founder and executive director Mr. Sifu Abdur-Rahim Muhammad describes as, “Africa and Asia Building Bridges through Culture and Cooperation with traditional drummers, dancers, lions and Kung Fu heroes to make for an exciting and memorable evening.”  The evening’s performers will include: Dragon Princess Olivia Zhang, Culture Queen Jessica Smith, Fairfax ‘Chinese Dance Troupe, Wuiping Yap, Malcolm X Drummers, and Hung Tao Choy Mei.

On Sunday September 14th, Lil SoSo Productions (www.lilsoso.com), Risikat Okedeyi’s woman-owned and run company specializing in Cultural Architecture, will present a program titled “I Remember U: A Live Mixtape Experience.”  The presentation will feature Washington DC Poetry and Hip-Hop icons Ra Brown, Poem-cees, Dehejia Maat, Wes Felton, Asheru, and DJ Stylus.

The Kennedy Center’s Millennium stage performances occur daily at 6pm and are part of its ‘Performing Arts for Everyone’ initiative featuring local, national, and international talents.  The events are free and open to the public of all ages. (http://www.kennedy-center.org/programs/millennium/ )

TOP DC POLITICOS AND CULTURAL INFLUENCERS KICK-OFF A ‘SCANDALOUS’ NEW WATCH SERIES

WASHINGTON, D.C., October 1, 2013 — Cultural architect Risikat “Kat” Okedeyi of LiL SoSo Productions, Inc., and married Politicos Danielle and Aisha Moodie-Mills of the weekly politics and pop culture show Politini, are kicking off the season premiere of the ABC hit show Scandal, October 3rd with Scandal Watch DC. The event will begin with an exclusive live streamed videotaping of Politini, featuring a panel of political and cultural influencers who will turn a critical eye on Scandal to discuss how creator/writer Shonda Rhimes’ (also of Grey’s Anatomy fame) multi-ethnic and multi-dimensional characters defy stereotypes and shift culture.

This event was attended by over 100 women. This unique women-only event was based on the very popular fictional novel, The Red Tent by Anita Diamant. After the three day celebration, which was held March 25-27, there was much healing, survival stories and eye opening knowledge that was shared with every woman in attendance.
