23 Oct Chop 4 Seven: #3 – Daniel Crawford
As part of the lead up to LSP’s Black President’s Day event, LSP has partnered with The Beat Inn, a Facebook group of aspiring and professional music producers, to create what are known as ‘chops’. This is when a tune is literally chopped up to create a whole new song. From a list of pre-selected Fela tunes, the best seven were chosen and will be featured on the LSP site as well as weaved into the djs’ mixes on the night of the event.
Daniel Crawford is a musician/producer born, raised and based out of Los Angeles, CA. He has been playing the piano since the age of 6 and has been producing since the age of 13. He is a member of the band Wylde Bunch and has played and toured with Raphael Saadiq, Jennifer Hudson, Mary J Blige, Kenna, Warren G, Jhene Aiko, Angie Stone, Lalah Hathaway, Kenny Lattimore and many more. As a producer he has released 7 mixtapes consisting of tributes to J Dilla, Michael Jackson and some R&B originals. And in September he released his first official album, a jazz album entitled “Red Pill”. As a producer and musician, he aims to bring good vibes through positive and healing music; something that he feels is missing from the majority of popular music of today. Daniel wants to evoke the sprits of his many musical influences and get back to what he believes music should be: music with meaning, music with a message and most importantly, music that makes you feel good.
