Chop 4 Seven: #4 – Sid Mercutio

Chop 4 Seven: #4 – Sid Mercutio

As part of the lead up to LSP’s Black President’s Day event, LSP has partnered with The Beat Inn, a Facebook group of aspiring and professional music producers, to create what are known as ‘chops’. This is when a tune is literally chopped up to create a whole new song. From a list of pre-selected Fela tunes, the best seven were chosen and will be featured on the LSP site as well as weaved into the djs’ mixes on the night of the event.

Roland Ikponmwosa Idehen a.k.a. SiD Mercutio a.k.a. Sid a.k.a. Siddy a.k.a. Rollnizzle a.k.a. Row Row a.k.a ……the list goes on. Started as a DJ in 2000 entertaining the people the best way he knows how to….music and dance. 2 years on, he got the knack for production of his own and started exploring production with a simple Playstation (do not ask him for those beats. he will not let anyone listen). His biggest influences are Pete Rock, Dr. Dre, Michael Jackson, Naughty by Nature, J Dilla….just to name a few. SiD studied Sound Recording Technology at London Metropolitan University, and was able to explore his talents in the prestigious Alchemea Studios. He also hosted a night called “Urban Flava” in Maidstone, Kent that grew to be THE definitive place to party on a Thursday if one wanted to hear R&B, Hip Hop, Bashment and Old Skool Garage. SiD has worked with many up and coming artists in the UK and US. A few include, Anai, Blitz tha Ambassador, Frenzik, Kwest, Tiffany Jade, Soulful Sista, Tresor Hugo, and Ade Omotayo. Here’s how SiD describes his style: “it mixes melodies and grooves with a touch of “tha soulful vibe” that’s not too hot or too cold to digest into the soul.”
“Life is like a Rhythm; Flow with it and you’ll be fine” – Sid Mercutio
