24 Jan Next on One on One Live: Melani N. Douglass (SUN. Jan 24th 10AM (EST)
One on One Live is a weekly live-streamed conversation hosted by the owner of LiL SoSo Productions (www.lilsoso.com), cultural architect, and professor, Risikat “Kat” Okedeyi (@katskornerco). Originally conceived as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the series features Black creatives from all walks of life sharing their successes, their failures, and how they cope during these mad times and beyond.
In this episode, Kat chats with Melani N. Douglass Melani started the Family Arts Museum while in grad school with her 18-month-old daughter. From the beginning, she realize that very few people would make room for her as a Black woman, as a mother and as an artist. There was a slight push to create an art career separate from my life and work as a woman and a mother. The creation of the Family Arts Museum was her resistance to this.
