
15 Feb Kat’s Korner: The Bonner Room (CURATION)
This Saturday, February 20th, Nubian Hueman and its partners will host The Black Love Experience (Part Trois). After attending last year’s event, I was more than happy when event producer, Anika Hobbs asked me to curate a portion of the event. On that special night the black box theatre will become The Bonner Room in honor of one of my many sheroes, Marita Bonner, whose essay on “On Being Young—a Woman—and Colored” showcases a perspective of self-love and awareness that I am still smitten by.
For my contribution, The Bonner Room will feature a lecture, workshops and a panel discussion with Black Love as the central theme. Black Love Experience attendees will be encouraged to join in and engage thought leaders and practitioners, as we approach love from individual and communal perspectives. Pleae note the following schedule is subject to change:
7:10PM: Self Love in the Age of Distraction will be a short lecture led by Evelyn Bandoh of Mystic Genius that center around the realities of maintaining self-love and care perspectives in the modern, fast-paced, digital age where selfies and constant status updates rule.
7:45PM: The Goddess Flow is a mini workshop led by Mayasa Telfair of It’s Time for Healing Holistic & Fitness Center, that will focus on indigenous village life of healing women. You will explore moves & techniques to strengthen vitality using the yoni egg gemstone. Awaken Chi with orgasmic exercises that empower femininity an increased positive self love; Practical vaginal weightlifting exploring the mental, physical & spiritual aspects of the yoni (vagina). (WOMEN ONLY)
8:30PM: Our panel Black Love: A Conversation on Sustaining and Maintaining the Community will be moderated by Amina Carter of Womansphere. Featuring six thought leaders with experiences as community organizers, artists and public figures, the panel will examine how Black Love can be serve as a tool for community action, engagement and maintenance.

9:20PM: Yang Builders, a workshop led by Amtchat Edwards will feature participants practicing breathing, stretching and mental exercises to activate and increase their inner YANG potential. (MEN ONLY)
10:00PM: The Interplay, this fun movement workshop led by Amtchat Edwards is open to everyone. Based on principles of Polarity and Attraction, this hands-on workshop will help participants experience the interplay of Yin and Yang in a physically close, intimate, and natural way. Yin and Yang will be personified, amplified and paired in their complimentary nature.
